Borders, et al. v. King County, et al. and Washington State Democratic Central Committee

Superior Court of Washington, Chelan County
Challenge by the Republican Party to the election of Washington State Governor Christine Gregoire, the closest gubernatorial election in United States history. After two-week trial, the court upheld the election results. No. 05-2-00027-3

Campbell v. Abney Mills Corporation

Represented brake manufacturer in a multidefendant asbestos product liability case.

City of Livonia Employees' Retirement System v. The Boeing Company

U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois
U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit
Represented Boeing and two of its senior executives in a securities fraud class action relating to the delay of first flight of the 787 Dreamliner. Plaintiffs' operative complaint relied on the alleged statements of a confidential source who purportedly possessed high-level knowledge. 

Costco Wholesale Corporation v. AU Optronics Corporation, et al.

U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington
Counsel for plaintiff in LCD price-fixing conspiracy case. Jury verdict for Costco after a five-week trial. Case settled following appeal.

In re Hawaiian Airlines Inc.

U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Hawaii
Representation of Boeing and affiliates in a heavily contested motion for appointment of a Chapter 11 trustee based on mismanagement and malfeasance related to CEO and majority owner's stock repurchase prior to insolvency.  Motion granted following trial.

Estate of Lily Kobayashi Landress, Deceased

Probate Court Number One (1) of Harris County, Texas
Represented a former NASA engineer in a will contest concerning interests in several pieces of lucrative real estate in Texas. After three years of litigation and a seven-day trial in Houston, a Perkins Coie trial team won a complete jury verdict and was awarded $1.5 million in attorneys’ fees.

Move, Inc. v. Zillow, Inc.

Superior Court of Washington, King County
Represented the defendant Zillow in an employment-related unfair competition / trade secret case against its largest competitor in which the plaintiffs sought approximately $2 billion in damages. After the Court dismissed more than $1 billion of plaintiffs’ claimed damages, found in favor of Zillow on allegations of spoliation, and granted several of the client’s motions for partial summary judgment including dismissal of most of plaintiffs’ tort-based claims, case settled on what was scheduled to be the first day of trial.

Stalwart Capital, LLC v. iCap Pacific Northwest Opportunity and Income Fund, LLC, et al.

U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington
U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit
Represented multiple real estate investment fund LLCs in litigation over a broker-dealer agreement and on claims for breach of contract, tortious interference, successor liability, and veil piercing liability issues.

University of Oregon in High-Profile Jury Trial

A Perkins Coie litigation team won a favorable settlement for the University of Oregon, concluding a month-long jury trial in which a former Oregon Ducks football player sought damages for injuries sustained during strenuous winter workouts.    

UTILX v. Bertini, et al.

Superior Court of Washington, King County
Represented UTILX in aggressive litigation enforcing noncompetition agreement and trade secrets misappropriation claims involving silicone injection technology for buried power cable life extension. Six-week jury trial resulted in verdict for UTILX and entry of injunction extending and enforcing noncompetition against defendant Bertini. No. 03-2-14593-9 KNT
