Seattle (November 11, 2019) – Perkins Coie is pleased to announce that it was named to The National Law Journal’s 2019 Appellate Hot List, an annual list of law firms that have won key matters before the U.S. Supreme Court and federal courts of appeals.

In its profile of Perkins Coie featuring partners Marc Elias and Eric Wolff, The National Law Journal highlighted the firm’s role in securing two victories—in 2018 and 2017—before the U.S. Supreme Court in Virginia House of Delegates v. Bethune-Hill. By a 5-4 majority, the Supreme Court ruled that the Virginia House of Delegates’ redistricting map included unconstitutional racial gerrymanders in violation of the Fourteenth Amendment.

In addition to the Supreme Court win, Perkins Coie notched notable arguments in the Circuit Courts of Appeals, including before the en banc U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit in a voting rights case challenging Arizona election laws and before the Federal Circuit, which led to a precedent-setting victory for Mylan.

Additionally, the firm achieved a series of high-stakes appellate victories in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit and U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit and in state appellate courts. Perkins Coie is also counsel in an appeal involving ownership of rare dinosaur fossils in Montana that the en banc Ninth Circuit sent to the Montana Supreme Court.
