Partner Matt Bernstein was quoted in “After Rules Shake-Up, Albright Remains The Top Patent Judge,” an article in Law360,* regarding the number of patent cases seen in the U.S. District Court of the Western District of Texas.

Matthew pointed to the fact that many technology companies are based in the area, often making it a proper venue under U.S. Supreme Court precedent that takes into account where a defendant has a place of business.

In addition, Matthew noted, although Judge Albright has repeatedly been ordered by the Federal Circuit to transfer patent cases elsewhere, “he doesn't hesitate to keep the case in his venue if he thinks it's appropriate, and I think that's something that plaintiffs look at when they're making the decision where to file.”
