Overview

Carolyn represents clients in a variety of civil litigation and regulatory matters, with a focus on environmental, commercial contract and lease, and toxic tort litigation, as well as government enforcement actions, investigations, and compliance. She works with clients across a wide range of industries, including energy and utilities, real estate, technology, healthcare, and manufacturing.

In her environmental litigation and compliance practice, Carolyn handles matters under Washington’s Model Toxics Control Act (MTCA), the Oregon Superfund Act, and the federal Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), on cost-recovery and allocation litigation as well as natural resource damage claims. She also assists clients with compliance matters and in government enforcement and in citizen suit actions. In her business litigation practice, Carolyn works with clients on toxic tort matters, high-stakes contract disputes, and has represented clients in leasehold disputes throughout the country. She has represented clients in investigations and litigation relating to foreign anti-bribery, insider trading, and anti-kickback statutes.

Carolyn maintains an active pro bono practice, including First and Fourth Amendment litigation on behalf of local grassroots and national activist organizations. She has also represented several individuals with successful clemency petitions and under the Criminal Justice Act (CJA). She currently serves on the firm’s Seattle Pro Bono Committee.
