SEATTLE, Wash. (December 20, 2017) - Perkins Coie is pleased to announce that it was ranked as the Top Life Sciences Law Firm in Patent Litigation for Q3 2017 by Lake Whillans Litigation Finance in its Life Sciences Law Firm Index. Lake Whillans is a commercial litigation finance firm providing funding for companies in litigation or arbitration.

The index was first developed in 2016 to identify law firms that are the most active and relevant for life science companies. In addition to collecting data in three practice categories — corporate, intellectual property and regulatory —Lake Whillans incorporated information on law firms’ work with startup companies, as well as their thought leadership efforts in order to generate the Index scores.

“We are pleased that Perkins Coie’s commitment to support the work of our life sciences clients has been recognized by Lake Willans,” said Michael Wise, Firmwide Chair of Perkins Coie’s Life Sciences & Healthcare Industry Sector. “Life sciences has always been an important industry sector for our firm, and we are grateful for our clients’ continued trust.”

Perkins Coie’s IP practice litigates patents in district courts across the United States and before the U.S. Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB). The IP practice also successfully prepares and prosecutes patent applications in anticipation of licensing opportunities and potential litigation. The group manages clients’ patent portfolios and provides strategies for strengthening and monetizing those portfolios. The group’s experience spans a range of life sciences technologies, including biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, medical devices and digital health. Perkins Coie was just named the 2018 U.S. News – Best Lawyers® “Law Firm of the Year” in Patent Law, an honor it has received three times in six years, more than any other firm. The firm was also recently recognized as the leading law firm representing America’s largest companies in IP litigation by Corporate Counsel. Perkins Coie was named among the top ten firms representing patent owners before the USPTO PTAB by Lex Machina in its PTAB 2017 Report, and Docket Navigator ranked Perkins Coie among the top 10 firms representing parties at the PTAB in 2016, the second year it received this recognition. The Financial Times recently recognized the firm’s Patent Prosecution Platform, or “P4,” as the most innovative initiative in the Business of Law: Technology category as part of the 2017 Financial Times North American Innovative Lawyers Report.
