SEATTLE, WA (March 28, 2019) – Perkins Coie is pleased to announce that it has received the top rating of 100 percent in the 2019 Corporate Equality Index and Best Places to Work survey for an eleventh year. This is the 17th annual edition of the national benchmarking survey and report on corporate policies and practices related to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) workplace equality, which is administered by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation (HRC), America’s largest civil rights organization working to achieve LGBTQ equality.

Perkins Coie joins the ranks of over 560 major U.S. businesses that have also earned a perfect score of 100 for their policies covering LGBTQ employees and advocacy for LGBTQ equality.

“Workplace diversity is truly a core value at Perkins Coie because it fosters a more inclusive and dynamic professional environment,” said Genhi Givings Bailey, Perkins Coie’s chief diversity & inclusion officer. “It is an honor to be recognized by the HRC for our LGBTQ policies and practices and to be among the top firms in the country for promoting workplace diversity and inclusion.”

“The top-scoring companies on this year’s CEI are not only establishing policies that affirm and include employees here in the United States, they are applying these policies to their global operations and impacting millions of people beyond our shores,” said HRC President Chad Griffin. “Many of these companies have also become vocal advocates for equality in the public square, including the dozens that have signed on to amicus briefs in vital Supreme Court cases and the more than 170 that have joined HRC’s Business Coalition for the Equality Act. Time and again, leading American businesses have shown that protecting their employees and customers from discrimination isn’t just the right thing to do—it’s also good for business.”

The 2019 CEI rated 1,028 businesses in the report, which evaluates LGBTQ-related policies and practices including non-discrimination workplace protections, domestic partner benefits, transgender-inclusive health care benefits, competency programs and public engagement with the LGBTQ community. To achieve a perfect score and the coveted distinction of being among the “Best Places to Work for LGBTQ Equality,” businesses under consideration must have fully inclusive equal employment opportunity policies, provide equal employment benefits, demonstrate organizational LGBTQ competency, evidence their commitment to equality publicly and exercise responsible citizenship.

Perkins Coie has long been committed to excellence in diversity. For 17 consecutive years, the firm has been on Fortune magazine’s list of “100 Best Companies to Work For.” The firm is deeply committed to supporting LGBTQ+ attorneys and has been recognized as among the best firms for minority attorneys and the best firms for diversity by Law360 and Vault, respectively.
