Overview

Adriana Vélez-León's practice primarily involves energy law, advising clients on regulatory, litigation, and transactional matters. Adriana has represented public utilities and electric cooperatives before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) on issues concerning, among others, rate and tariff filings. Adriana has particular knowledge and experience with the North American Electric Reliability Corporation’s (NERC) Reliability Standards and federal energy rules and regulations. She has drafted applications and compliance filings pursuant to Sections 203 and 205 of the Federal Power Act, including applications for market-based rate authorization and triennial market power updates.

Adriana also represents clients in the negotiation of power purchase agreements, mergers and acquisitions transactions, project financings, and related regulatory proceedings.

Prior to joining Perkins Coie, Adriana was an energy associate at another international law firm. Additionally, she has been recognized in Public Utilities Fortnightly’s "Forty Under Forty" list in 2022 and currently teaches a scholarly writing course for the Journal of Energy & Environmental Law at The George Washington University Law School.
