Advances in additive manufacturing, or 3-D printing, make it easier and less expensive to manufacture products, but also create the possibility of their being misused to infringe intellectual property (IP) rights. Existing IP protection and enforcement mechanisms, however, if used in a strategic and timely manner, can still be effective in deterring infringements related to 3-D printing.
