LOS ANGELES (April 8, 2021)—Perkins Coie’s CXO Summit brought together business leaders from the healthcare and technology sectors for an April 7 virtual executive leadership forum addressing how technology is shaping healthcare’s future amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The summit was hosted by Perkins Coie partners David Biderman and Jill Louis, and included C-suite representatives from Alphabet Inc.’s Verily, Baxter International Inc., Google, Salesforce, and StarChain Ventures. Board members from a range of Fortune 1000 companies, including Truist, Pinterest, and Merck spinoff Organon & Co., also joined the forum.

Dr. Ashish Jha, dean of the Brown University School of Public Health, who has led groundbreaking Ebola research and has advised state and federal policymakers on the COVID-19 response, provided keynote remarks on how technology, data, and artificial intelligence can help inform and improve healthcare policy decisions.

Participants discussed how, amid public policy challenges to COVID-19, businesses, researchers, and policymakers could find a path forward to combat complex healthcare challenges using technology and data while also addressing privacy and security risks.

Jessica Mega, co-founder and chief medical and scientific officer at Verily, highlighted how technology and new partnerships could be harnessed to deliver improved healthcare outcomes. She also discussed how enabling researchers to securely opt in and access new technologies and data sets could help improve healthcare responses and solutions.

Participants also addressed how technology is being used to further combat COVID-19, monitor patient diagnostics, augment clinical workflows, detect fraud and data breaches, identify patterns in medical data, and suggest effective treatments, among other key tasks and medical interventions. They also discussed the roles that investors, financial institutions, retailers, and apps play in a coordinated health response.
