Perkins Coie is pleased to report that it has been selected as legal counsel for Union Station Redevelopment Corporation (USRC) in connection with the Union Station 2nd Century Project, which is expected to be one of the most significant development projects in Washington, D.C. USRC is charged with managing the redevelopment and operation of Union Station in Washington, D.C., a nationally known rail station and the second busiest rail station in the Northeast Corridor, including the preservation of the station’s historic significance.

The firm will provide legal services to USRC in the areas of real estate and finance, in connection with USRC’s efforts to redevelop Union Station, and to facilitate and oversee development of air rights above the station. The project, known as the Union Station 2nd Century Project, is also expected to be one of the most significant rail projects on the East Coast. The law firm of Miles & Stockbridge also has been selected for this work.

Redevelopment of Union Station will include restoration and modernization of the Union Station building and expansion of facilities to accommodate increased passenger traffic, which is anticipated to double by 2033. Development of the air rights is expected to include a three-million-square-foot mixed use development of offices, residences, hotel and retail.
