Perkins Coie attorneys Charles Sipos and Breena Roos were featured and quoted in the FoodNavigator-USA article, “Court Filings Indicate Resurgence’ in ‘All-Natural’ Litigation in 2017, but will Appropriations Bill Spur the FDA Into Action?,” regarding the resurgence in litigation around the term “natural” on food products.

There has been a resurgence in ‘all natural’ litigation in 2017 as the industry has waited in vain for the FDA to provide a definition of the much-maligned term. However, a line item in an appropriations bill might spur the agency into action, say attorneys at Perkins Coie.

Speaking at a mid-year food litigation summary webinar hosted by the law firm earlier this month, partner Charles Sipos said: "All natural litigation dipped a bit in 2016, but in 2017 there's been a bit of a resurgence [19 cases in the first seven months of the year vs 27 for all of 2016] and if the current trend continues, we're expecting about a 30% increase in the filings of these cases in 2017 as compared to 2016."
