SEATTLE (March 8, 2024)—Perkins Coie is pleased to announce that Jessica Kaiser, an Intellectual Property partner and former lead administrative patent judge at the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), has been appointed as firmwide co-chair of the Post-Grant Proceedings practice, effective March 4, 2024. Jessica, based in the Denver office, will join Babak Tehranchi, a Patent Prosecution partner in the San Diego office, in leading the national group within the firm’s Intellectual Property practice.

During her more than seven-year tenure at the USPTO, Jessica presided over hundreds of cases before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), handling both ex parte appeals and America Invents Act (AIA) trials. She played a key role in PTAB and agency reforms, including implementing new agency rulemaking and a pilot program for motions to amend patent claims in AIA trials. Jessica currently serves as the vice chair of the PTAB Bar Association Women’s Committee and is a member of Law360’s Intellectual Property Editorial Advisory Board and the Intellectual Property Owners Association’s U.S. Post-Grant Patent Office Practice Committee.
