On Oct. 24, the U.S. Department of Justice announced charges against 13 individuals accused of acting within the U.S. as agents of the People's Republic of China, or PRC.

Significantly, the DOJ announcement covered three separate cases that covered three different schemes. The common theme among the cases is that all involve clandestine activities by the PRC and its agents.

Announcing these cases together sends a clear message that the DOJ, the FBI and their partners are aggressively seeking to disrupt the PRC's long-standing practice of conducting intelligence operations on U.S. soil.

In context, the indictments also reflect a refinement of the role of U.S. law enforcement in countering the PRC's all-tools approach to competing with the U.S.
