This One-Hour Briefing will address the recent wave of regulatory activity seeking to protect teens online. For several decades, online platforms and services have been shielded from liability for user-generated content, and the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) has been the dominant regulatory paradigm for children’s privacy in the US. Over the past few years, there has been increasing regulatory focus on age-appropriate design and teen safety online, with numerous laws in the U.S., EU, and around the world adopting privacy and product safety requirements specific to minors under 18. This program will explain the regulatory shift, provide an overview of key compliance requirements, and propose practical steps to consider.
