BOISE (June 15,2023)—Perkins Coie is pleased to announce that Sarah Hugues, an environment and natural resources lawyer in the firm's Boise office, has been selected as a 2023 Accomplished Under 40 award recipient by the Idaho Business Review, which honors dynamic leaders in industry, government, and the nonprofit sector who will be the decision-makers of tomorrow.

Though Sarah’s practice focuses primarily on environmental, natural resources, and energy law, she specializes in Native American law and its complexities in these arenas. She advises clients on tribal and treaty-related issues, including considerations surrounding economic development projects on or affecting tribal lands and how to effectively collaborate with tribes as agencies fulfill government-to-government consultation requirements, including those under the National Environmental Protection Act and the National Historic Preservation Act.

Prior to joining Perkins Coie, Sarah was the first Native American to serve as associate counsel to Idaho’s Governor, C.L. “Butch” Otter. In addition to her work at the firm, Sarah serves on the Board of the Idaho Botanical Garden, the American Bar Association’s Endangered Species Committee, and the Idaho State Bar’s Environment & Natural Resources Law Section.
