SEATTLE and WASHINGTON, D.C. (July 25, 2022)—Perkins Coie is pleased to announce that the first two fellows have been chosen for the firm’s Pro Bono Racial Justice Fellowship. The Racial Justice Fellowship was created as part of the firm’s broader Commitment to Racial Equality, a series of actions announced by Perkins Coie in 2020 to help improve racial equality and create a more just and equal society.

The firm’s initial fellows are Commercial Litigation associates Chandler Smith and Annie Guilyard. They will spend the coming year working in Washington, D.C., with the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law (LCCRUL), one of the firm’s long-standing pro bono partners. After their fellowships are completed, Chandler will join Perkins Coie’s Phoenix office, and Annie will join the firm’s San Diego office.

The fellowship program builds on the firm’s core commitment to pro bono legal work and its existing work to end racism and advance diversity, equity, and inclusion. It offers current and incoming first-year associates the opportunity to spend up to one year of supporting legal work in a civil rights or criminal justice organization or other association that promotes racial equity and equality.
