NEW YORK (October 4, 2022)—Perkins Coie is pleased to announce that litigation partner Jamie Schafer will be honored with the 2022 Global Accountability Guardian Award from Human Rights First at the organization’s annual awards celebration on October 24th in New York.

Human Rights First is an independent advocacy and action organization that challenges America to live up to its ideals. For 40 years the organization has worked to press the U.S. government and private companies to respect human rights and the rule of law. Human Rights First initiated the Global Accountability Guardian Award in 2021 to honor passionate and dedicated champions of human rights who work relentlessly to hold human rights abusers accountable worldwide.

The Global Accountability Guardian Award will recognize Jamie’s long-standing commitment to fighting corruption through her anti-money laundering and anti-corruption work, as well as her efforts to promote accountability through awareness and compliance with U.S. targeted sanctions. For many years, Jamie has been an integral advisor to Human Rights First’s accountability team.

“Whether advising our experts and strengthening our targeted sanctions work or fighting corruption that can destabilize countries and lead to human rights abuses, Jamie has long been a leader and partner in our work to promote respect for human rights at home and across the globe,” said Michael Breen, President and CEO of Human Rights First.

“We are so proud of Jamie for receiving this important recognition from Human Rights First,” said David B. Massey, Firmwide Co-Chair of Perkins Coie’s White Collar and Investigations Practice. “Jamie’s steadfast dedication to human rights and her long-standing work as an advisor to Human Rights First is a testament to her stellar character and top-notch lawyering.”

Jamie Schafer is a litigation partner who represents both corporations and individuals in complex U.S. and cross-border criminal and regulatory matters. These include issues involving the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), federal securities and anti-money laundering laws and regulations, and embargoes administered by the U.S. Department of Treasury, Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC).
