WASHINGTON, D.C. (September 4, 2017) The lawyers and staff of Perkins Coie mourn the loss of our friend and colleague Marty Lybecker.

Marty joined the firm in 2010 and was Chair of the Investment Management practice and Co-Chair of the Family Office Services practice. A truly exceptional lawyer, he was widely regarded as one of the country’s leading authorities on the Investment Company Act of 1940, the law surrounding family offices and banking regulation as applied to the investment management industry. He shared his knowledge on these topics over many years of teaching and lecturing at Georgetown University Law Center, Duke University, State University of New York at Buffalo and the University of North Carolina.

Marty was former Chair of the American Bar Association Section of Business Law, and of the Committees on Developments in Investment Services, and Banking Law. He was a member of the American Law Institute, and a member of the editorial board of The Investment Lawyer.

Marty will long be remembered by his colleagues for his brilliant legal mind, his passion for many things, and his generosity, humor and curiosity. He was a consummate professional who embodied the very best in the practice of law. He will be missed by all.
