Several Perkins Coie attorneys were mentioned in the Law360 article, "Boeing Wins $75K In Sanctions Row Against Plane Crash Atty," in response to sanctions by an Illinois state court against an attorney with aviation specialty firm Ribbeck Law Chtd. for repeatedly filing discovery requests against Boeing Co. and others, then misrepresenting them as actual lawsuits to drum up business.

Boeing was represented by Patrick Collins, Bates McIntyre Larson and Kathleen Stetsko of Perkins Coie LLP.

“This was a flagrant abuse of an important discovery tool,” Boeing’s attorney, Patrick Collins, told Law360. “Ribbeck’s business model was to basically mislead folks in the country that had just experienced this crash, and tell them ‘we’ve sued Boeing’ to get them to sign on.’”

The $75,000 in sanctions will go towards paying Collins and other Perkins Coie attorneys for representing Boeing in the case. The firm had originally requested $150,000 in fees and costs, but Judge Gomolinski ultimately cut the figure in half in his final order on Tuesday.
