NEW YORK (March 15, 2023)—Perkins Coie is pleased to announce that New York patent litigation partner Dennis Hopkins has received the Visionary of Justice Award from the New York Legal Assistance Group (NYLAG) for his outstanding commitment to community service. 

NYLAG is a leading civil legal services organization combatting economic, racial, and social injustice by advocating for people experiencing poverty or in crisis. NYLAG’s Visionary of Justice Award honors a legal professional who has demonstrated a dedication to serving those facing such challenges in the local community.

Their efforts are truly life-changing for the communities we serve,” said Amira Samuel, director of NYLAG’s Pro Bono & Volunteer Unit. 

Dennis has helped support NYLAG’s Tenants’ Rights Unit in the past year, including representation of a public housing tenant in a legal action seeking much-needed repairs to her apartment.  

“Dennis was instrumental in the tenant raising her tenancy rights and fighting for her right to habitable housing,” said Jared Riser, a staff attorney in the Tenants’ Rights Unit. “As a result of his zealous advocacy, he ensured that the client and her children could live peacefully in safe conditions.” 

“Dennis does not just talk about attorneys needing to use their talents to help others, he makes it a part of his work as an attorney to actively engage in all aspects of pro bono service,” said Jeffrey Herbert, executive vice president of Apple Bank, who nominated Dennis for the award. “Dennis is committed to rolling up his sleeves and participating every step of the way.”
