Partner Heather Sager was quoted in “Companies See Backlash From Conservative Groups on DEI Initiatives,” an article in Agenda,* regarding legislation related to diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives and companies running mandatory training programs.

 

“There’s always a potential for a no-good-deed-goes-unpunished concern,” said Heather. “So when I see legislation or cultural shifts that include things that require more court feedback or legislative guidance to determine how it is going to play out, I do worry that some companies are going to have a gun-shy reaction and say, ‘We better not do anything, because we don’t know how this is going to play out.’”

“I really do think that corporations are focused on doing the right thing for their people to make sure their companies are a good place and fair place and provide equal opportunities for everyone, and part of that is education and awareness,” Heather said. “These laws and these pushes by different lobbying groups to try to limit those efforts are creating a real challenge to employers.”
