Stefani Shanberg is a trusted partner to global technology companies facing intellectual property (IP) cases before the federal courts and the International Trade Commission (ITC). A go-to advisor for many prominent technology companies, she has extensive experience in all areas of IP litigation and often obtains successful outcomes based on creative and novel issues of law. She has won cases at trial, on summary judgment, and on motions to dismiss; and prevailed on advantageous claim constructions, won motions to transfer and stay, and convinced courts of appeal to affirm favorable lower-court rulings.
Stefani has litigated patent cases throughout the nation for almost 25 years, including more than 100 cases in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California alone. Her experience is complemented by her leadership roles. Stefani is a judicially appointed member of the Northern District of California Patent Instructions and Rules Attorney Advisory Committee.
Stefani has deep experience with investigations before the ITC. Stefani serves as a mediator and early neutral evaluator in IP disputes. As a longtime litigator, she brings a valuable perspective to helping others to recognize the strengths and risks associated with their own litigation and to creatively resolve cases when possible. Stefani believes her service as a frequent and successful mediator for the Northern District of California Court’s Alternative Dispute Resolution program has made her a stronger litigator because it forces her to consider cases neutrally and from all perspectives.
