Overview

Perkins Coie’s International Trade practice helps corporations and sovereigns take advantage of global market opportunities and avoid liability under international trade and investment rules.

With over 25 attorneys and professionals located in offices throughout the United States and Asia, we advise clients on international rules and U.S. laws regulating trade in goods and services, including trade remedies, customs, export controls and economic sanctions, trade-related intellectual property and foreign investment.

We also represent clients in international trade negotiations and disputes, including those arising under the World Trade Organization (WTO). We frequently advise clients on trade policy matters, developing and implementing government affairs strategies, and lobbying the United States and other governments. As a result of decades of success advising clients on international trade matters, our senior lawyers have been recognized as preeminent by Chambers & Partners and other lawyer ranking entities.

Our clients range from WTO member governments to some of the largest multinational companies in the world. We have participated in many of the most significant antidumping, countervailing duty, safeguard and WTO dispute settlement cases to date.

Perkins Coie  attorneys regularly appear before the U.S. agencies that regulate international trade, including the Departments of Commerce, State and Treasury, International Trade Commission (ITC), Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP). We frequently represent clients in appeals of agency determinations to the U.S. Court of International Trade, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court, as well as in WTO Panel and Appellate Body proceedings.

In recognition of the depth and breadth of our practice, clients frequently retain us to design and implement international regulatory compliance programs, perform internal audits and investigations, and defend against government enforcement actions. We also provide international trade due diligence counseling to clients contemplating mergers and acquisitions.
