Perkins Coie this week convened a panel of experts for an online conversation about recent and expected changes in cannabis laws and legislation. Here are a few snippets of that chat, led by Perkins Coie’s Barak Cohen and featuring Steve Hawkins, executive director of the Marijuana Policy Project; Andrew Kline, senior counsel at Perkins Coie; Yoko Miyashita, CEO of Leafly; and Michelle Rutter Friberg, deputy director of government relations for the National Cannabis Industry Association.
On the topic of predictions for 2021, Andrew said, ”We’re going to start to see some real normalization of this industry. We’re starting to see it now. It’s still a new industry. But I think in the coming months, we’re going to see a real sea change. This industry is very brand loyal. And so I think if we may see some movement around intellectual property protections that’s going to really set some of the brands on a really good path.”
