Partner Chris Rich was quoted in “How Portland Law Firms Are Recruiting in a Very Hot Job Market,” an article in Portland Business Journal,* regarding Perkins Coie’s response to the competitive Portland legal job market.

Perkins Coie raised salaries “multiple times in step with national firms taking the same approach,” putting it close to the top of the market in Portland, said Chris, managing partner for the Portland office. He said the firm has seen back-to-back the "busiest years ever in the firm's history." To help, the firm has onboarded four new partners during the pandemic.

“We’ve also learned it’s not just about pay,” Chris said. “The pandemic has really upended a lot of traditional models about how and where we hire. We assume that for every new offer we put out there, there are competing offers. Even once attorneys come over, we’ve seen an increasing trend of higher mobility, particularly among some of the younger attorneys. It’s a really different approach than old days when you got a job and stayed there 30 years.”
