Many employers in New York may be unaware that they may be required to pay their employees weekly.

New York Labor Law Section 191(1)(a) requires companies that employ manual workers to pay eligible employees no later than seven days after the wages are earned.

While the term "manual worker" might bring to mind images of factory workers and tradespeople, guidance provided by the New York Department of Labor has long held that an individual who spends at least 25% of their working time engaged in physical labor is a manual worker under the law.
