Perkins Coie Launches New Data Center Hub
SEATTLE (May 9, 2025)—Perkins Coie has launched a new Data Center Hub to assist clients with the development, operations, and maintenance of data centers. The group will be led by five primary lawyers, Jane Rueger, partner and firmwide lead of the Energy Infrastructure & Clean Technology industry group; Andrew Grant, partner and firmwide chair of the Technology Transactions & Privacy practice; Sumedha Ahuja, Intellectual Property practice partner and co-chair of the Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning industry group; partner Camarin Madigan, and counsel Michael Herrera.
With the rapid increase in demand for digital infrastructure, the legal and regulatory landscape has grown more complex. Perkins Coie’s new Data Center Hub offers the right knowledge and tools to support industry participants navigating the most pressing data center challenges such as AI-driven expansion, energy consumption and sustainability, advanced cooling technologies, location diversification, and foreign investments.

Over the next five years, investments in U.S. data centers are set to surpass $1 trillion dollars, underscoring the fast-paced growth of the sector. As the industry continues to grow in size, new and emerging technologies, such as generative AI and quantum computing, will require more physical storage facilities. Last year, the United States added 5,000 megawatts of new data center capacity—equivalent to 1% of the nation's total power consumption.
