Sonia Farber is a venture lawyer, advising innovative companies in the software as a service (SaaS), consumer tech, health tech, artificial intelligence (AI) and consumer packaged goods (CPG) spaces through critical phases of their lifecycles, from formation and launch through key milestones and exit. Sonia also works closely with founders and their companies on day-to-day business matters, including board and governance issues, commercial partnerships, master service agreements (MSAs), terms of service, and employment and executive compensation matters.
A former litigator with one of the world’s top litigation practices and clerk for the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, Sonia brings a commercial, risk-based approach to her practice and relies on her litigation skills in advocating for her clients’ best interests. In addition to representing companies, Sonia also represents individuals in co-founder and governance disputes—utilizing the combination of both litigation and venture knowledge to optimize results for her clients.
Sonia maintains an active pro bono practice, with an emphasis on women’s and children’s rights, and has represented clients in asylum proceedings, special immigrant juvenile proceedings for children seeking to stay in the United States, and human rights cases. She is an active board member with Yamba Malawi, a nonprofit dedicated to reducing childhood poverty in Malawi, where over half the population lives in poverty.
Sonia regularly speaks and writes on topics that include venture law, co-founder and governance disputes, and women in the law. She is fluent in French and Spanish.
Prior to joining Perkins Coie, Sonia co-founded a successful boutique law firm, specializing in startups and venture capital.
