Seyoung Cheon's patent practice covers all phases in patenting a technology, including evaluating research and development results for patentable subject matter, preparing and prosecuting patent applications before U.S. and foreign patent offices, handling post-issuance patent office procedures, and counseling clients on patent issues. She also assists clients with patent due diligence projects, conducts patent validity assessment and infringement investigations, and participates in patent trial projects. With academic training in electrical engineering, Seyoung handles patent issues in various technical fields, including electronics, semiconductors, mobile technologies, software, computer hardware, telecommunications, and medical devices.
Before becoming a lawyer, Seyoung was a patent agent with Ashurst Perkins Coie for more than three years. She also practiced as a Korean patent attorney at Seoul law firms for over nine years. During her practice in Korea, Seyoung handled patent filing matters, litigated opposition and invalidation proceedings before the Korean Intellectual Property Office, assisted in patent infringement actions before Korean courts, and prepared patentability, infringement, and validity opinions.
