Sarah helps clients with civil litigation at all stages of the legal process—from case strategy, discovery, and briefing to settlement negotiations—with a focus on appeals.
Sarah (Langberg) Schirack is always on the lookout for ways to streamline and simplify too-often stilted legal writing and to innovate in presenting complicated facts and legal concepts. Her briefs regularly feature graphics to help judges digest complex issues, which have proven effective repeatedly. Her recent wins include nine appeals before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, two Washington Court of Appeals cases, an Alaska Superior Court appeal, and a federal district court summary judgment for one of Alaska's largest tribal healthcare providers on matters including statutory interpretation, civil procedure, and employment law. She also recently secured favorable resolutions in a six-plaintiff federal district court case for a higher education client and an arbitration of a $10 million business contract claim.
Sarah is also active in the community. She is president of the Alaska chapter of the Federal Bar Association and a lawyer representative to the Ninth Circuit Judicial Conference. She serves on the Alaska Bar Association’s Ethics Committee and previously served on the Pro Bono Committee, as well. Her pro bono matters have included advocating for children and families, and she was one of the first lawyers to participate in the U.S. District Court for the District of Alaska’s pro bono Prisoner Civil Rights Program.
