With more than 15 years of experience, Julie represents internet, technology, and social media companies in privacy litigation and third-party legal process compliance.
Julie Schwartz litigates disputes arising under the Stored Communications Act, the Communications Decency Act, the First Amendment, California's Yelp Law, and other federal and state privacy laws. She also handles class-action litigation relating to alleged violations of privacy rights and other laws.
In addition, Julie helps manage the firm's Electronic Communications Privacy Act (ECPA) compliance group, leading multiple teams that counsel service providers on data security issues and third-party requests for information. These requests involve demands for user data, as well as corporate records, and they arise in the civil and criminal defense, Section 1782, and Digital Millennium Copyright Act contexts. Julie frequently appears in state and federal courts in California and throughout the country to argue issues stemming from these requests for service providers. She is knowledgeable in California and federal law as it applies to nonparty discovery.
