With courts busier than ever and increasing numbers of motions decided on the papers alone, litigators must tell stories that engage and persuade. Like the page-turning thriller novels he publishes in his spare time, Joe Reid writes briefs that capture the court’s attention: federal judges have praised his work as among the best they have read.
Focused on patent litigation, patent trial matters and high-end prosecution work, including IPRs and portfolio strategy, Joe has practiced in district courts nationwide, the U.S. International Trade Commission, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office. He has worked on dozens of cases, including 10 that culminated in a jury or bench trial. Of particular note, Joe led the damages aspects of Microsoft’s defense in a series of trials that forged new damages law and were named among the “Top 10 Litigation Wins of 2008” by IP Law and Business.
Joe has extensive experience in multi-defendant cases and cases involving industry standards. While his personal background is in the life sciences, Joe handles cases involving a wide variety of technologies, including computer software and hardware; consumer electronics; image, video and audio processing; pharmaceuticals; medical devices; semiconductors; wireless networking; automotive systems; and e-commerce.
