James focuses on patent and intellectual property (IP) litigation for technology companies.
James Miller has extensive experience representing clients in litigation before U.S. district courts and in inter partes review proceedings before the U.S. Patent Trial and Appeal Board and the International Trade Commission. James also represents clients in arbitrations involving breach of contract, trade secrets, and IP disputes. His clients span numerous tech backgrounds, including industrial chemicals, software, networking technologies, mechanical and electrical devices, and biotechnology.
James regularly works on significant patent infringement cases, advising defendants in federal courts throughout the United States. He handles issues at almost every stage of litigation, including development of pre-litigation strategies, non-infringement, invalidity, summary judgment, damages, preparation, depositions, and trial preparation.
On a pro bono basis, James has represented members of Washington state communities against local government retaliation and represents asylum seekers.
Prior to earning a J.D. with honors from the University of Washington School of Law, James was an intern at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, where he examined patents in the chemistry art unit relating to hydraulic fracturing and food processing and packaging.
