Cassie counsels clients on complex environmental matters, from early-stage advice up through internal investigations and government enforcement actions.
Environmental and natural resources lawyer Cassie Roberts advises clients on complex regulatory compliance and permitting issues under state and federal environmental laws, including the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), the Clean Water Act (CWA), the Emergency Planning and Community Right-To-Know Act (EPCRA), and the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA).
Cassie represents clients in high-stakes environmental internal investigations and government enforcement actions involving federal and state enforcement and regulatory agencies, including the U.S. Department of Justice and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Cassie has investigated and defended several matters, both criminal and civil, involving alleged violations of the Clean Air Act (CAA), Clean Water Act (CWA), and their state equivalents.
Cassie also advises clients on environmental risk management in mergers and acquisitions. She oversees internal environmental compliance audits both in the regular course of business and as part of transaction-related environmental due diligence, working with businesses to identify and correct potential deficiencies before and after closing.
Cassie has assisted clients with environmental issues related to project development, including helping clients navigate complex regulatory and permitting schemes. She has worked on several infrastructure and development projects, including transmission lines, large mines, and a cruise ship terminal.
Cassie has a strong background in environmental science, including earning her Master of Public Health in environmental health science from the University of Michigan School of Public Health, where she focused on industrial hygiene and hazardous substances, and her Bachelor of Science in environmental science from Pacific University. Prior to attending law school, Cassie worked as an environmental engineer at Intel Corporation, where she partnered with plant personnel to achieve and maintain compliance with applicable environmental regulations for air, water, and waste programs.
