Zachary Watterson is a graduate of Stanford Law School, where he was active in a number of organizations, including the Stanford Public Interest Law Foundation, the Stanford National Security & the Law Society, and the Stanford Entertainment and Sports Law Association. Zachary was also heavily involved in the community throughout his time at Stanford by serving as an assistant coach for cross country, basketball, and track at his former high school, Sacred Heart Preparatory.
As a summer associate with Perkins Coie, Zachary researched and wrote memoranda on patent and trademark issues as well as a comprehensive study on the legal risks of a client’s webscraping business practice. He also assisted a cryptocurrency client with its presentation to the Securities and Exchange Commission.
A fellow with the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), Zachary authored the legal sections of a joint AAAS-FBI-UNICRI project titled, “National and Transnational Security Implications of Big Data in the Life Sciences.” Zachary examined the then-existing federal statutes to assess whether those laws adequately addressed the various security threats posed by big data research in the life sciences.
Zachary also worked as a legal intern with sports cable and television company Pac-12 Networks, where he drafted talent and independent contractor agreements to ensure their compliance with new California, Oregon, Utah, Colorado, Washington, and Arizona state employment laws. He also wrote cease and desist letters to individuals and entities regarding unauthorized use of Pac-12 trademark and materials.
Throughout his undergraduate studies, Zachary worked in the offices of Senator Dianne Feinstein and Congresswoman Jackie Speier, participating in legislation review, drafting policy briefs and helping to resolve constituent issues with the Veterans Administration, the Social Security Administration, and the Internal Revenue Service.
