SEATTLE, Wash. and BOISE, Idaho (February 8, 2017) - Perkins Coie is pleased to announce that Eric D. Miller and Christine M. Salmi have been selected to serve as Appellate Lawyer Representatives for the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Their term is effective immediately and will conclude on December 31, 2019. Appellate lawyer representatives are members of the Ninth Circuit Judicial Conference and are chosen by the circuit court.

Eric, a partner with Perkins Coie and chair of its Appellate Law practice, is based in the firm’s Seattle office, where he focuses on U.S. Supreme Court and appellate litigation. He has presented more than 40 appellate arguments, including 15 in the U.S. Supreme Court, and has filed more than 200 briefs in that court. Before joining Perkins Coie, Eric served for more than five years as an Assistant to the Solicitor General of the United States. In that capacity, he represented the government in the U.S. Supreme Court in numerous cases in a wide range of fields, including communications, energy, employment and administrative law. In 2008, he was awarded the Attorney General's Distinguished Service Award for his conduct of national security litigation. Earlier, Eric served as Deputy General Counsel of the Federal Communications Commission, where he managed the litigation division of the Commission's Office of General Counsel, which is responsible for defending the Commission's orders in federal courts of appeals. He has also served on the Appellate Staff of the Civil Division of the U.S. Department of Justice and in the Justice Department's Office of Legal Counsel.

Christine is a senior counsel in Perkins Coie's Boise office, where she serves as head of the local Litigation practice. She is a member of the firm's Appellate and Labor & Employment practices and is chair of the Boise office's Diversity Committee. Christine represents clients in complex real estate, insurance and construction litigation matters, as well as in employment disputes involving wage claims, discrimination claims, wrongful termination claims and challenges to covenants not to compete in Idaho state courts and federal courts and in neighboring jurisdictions. In the appellate arena, Christine represents clients in cases involving product liability, the First Amendment, trademark infringement, environmental resources, special education law and general commercial contracts disputes. Christine is a co-founder and the current chair of the Idaho State Bar's Appellate Practice Section; member of the Idaho State Bar, Appellate Practice Section; member of the Federal Bar Association (Idaho Chapter); and volunteer attorney, Court Appointed Special Advocates. She is also a co-editor/publisher of the Idaho Appellate Handbook (2015).
