Firm Adds Additional Depth to Expanding IP Team
DENVER, Colo. (June 5, 2013) – Perkins Coie is pleased to announce that David St. John-Larkin has joined the firm’s Intellectual Property practice as a senior counsel in the Denver office. He was previously a partner at Merchant & Gould P.C., where he served as co-chair of the Technology Transactions group. David’s arrival follows closely on the recent additions of Brian Kinnear and Mike Henson, who joined the firm’s Denver IP practice earlier this year. The firm now has 17 attorneys in its Denver IP group.

David focuses his practice on patent licensing and strategic patent portfolio management and analysis. His matters concentrate on the fields of computer science and electrical engineering, and he has extensive experience with open-source and proprietary computer and software technology. Specifically, David has handled technical subject matter related to operating systems encryption, authentication, compression, object-oriented programming, graphical user interfaces, computer hardware and architecture, real-time (streaming) communications, networking communications and protocols, digital and analog circuits, signal processing, semiconductors, component object models, database management systems and query languages. His industry experience includes various matters in the telecommunications, e-commerce, and medical software and hardware industries as well as matters involving standard-setting and technical standards.
David received his J.D. from University of Colorado School of Law, where he served as Production Editor of the Journal on Telecommunications and High Technology Law and Member of the University of Colorado Law Review. He received a B.S. in Computer Science, magna cum laude, from Michigan Technological University and a B.S. in Social Policy, with honors, from Northwestern University.In addition to his law practice, David serves as a Board Member and an Intellectual Property and Information Technology Advisory Board Member of the Silicon Flatirons Center for Law, Technology, and Entrepreneurship at the University of Colorado School of Law, which recognized him as its 2012 IT/IP Supporter of the Year. He is also a member of the Steering Committee of the Colorado Pro Bono Patent Program and serves as a volunteer for the Denver Center for Crime Victims. David was named a Rising Star by Super Lawyers in 2010, 2012 and 2013.
