Addition of Domingo Such Continues Firm’s Growth in the Windy City

CHICAGO (May 28, 2013) – Perkins Coie is pleased to announce that Domingo P. Such III joined the firm’s Chicago office as a partner in the firm’s Personal Planning group.  He was most recently a partner at McDermott Will & Emery LLP.  Mr. Such is the fourth new partner and the ninth attorney overall to join Perkins Coie’s Chicago office since January.

Mr. Such’s practice focuses on succession, financial, estate and tax planning matters as they relate to ownership in various forms.  He has extensive experience in advising families and individuals on gift, estate, and generation-skipping transfer tax planning and charitable giving, as well as corporate and tax issues affecting closely held businesses, with an emphasis on succession planning.  Mr. Such was selected for inclusion in the 2011 Citywealth Leading Lawyers list as a leading lawyer in North America, and in 2009 he was elected as a Fellow in the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel.  Worth magazine previously selected Mr. Such as one of the nation’s top 100 estate planning attorneys in the United States, and he is recognized as one of the Best Lawyers in America.

“Domingo is a great addition to the office.  He not only brings a new service capacity for our clients as our first Personal Planning attorney in Chicago, but he also adds a dynamic and growing practice of his own,” said Chris Wilson, Office Managing Partner of Perkins Coie’s Chicago office.

“Chicago is just the right place for us to expand the national scope of our practice, consistent with the firm’s national growth,” said Janis Cunningham, Firmwide Chair of the firm’s Personal Planning Practice.  “Chicago is a fast growing office in a developed and vibrant business center and we know that good estate planning facilitates passing assets such as a business onto the next generation by minimizing taxes during life and at death with successful succession planning.  We’re very excited about being able to more fully serve our Chicago area clients and expand our national personal planning practice.”

Mr. Such received his J.D., cum laude, from Loyola University Chicago School of Law.  He holds both a B.A. and an MBA from Washington University in St. Louis, and an Advanced Certificate in Family Business Advising, with Fellow status, from the Family Firm Institute, where he serves on the faculty.  Mr. Such also has advised on the use and administration of ESOPs for succession planning, management buy-outs and serves as the lead partner for a 100 percent ESOP-owned manufacturer.  Mr. Such also serves as outside general counsel to closely held businesses in the construction and medical device industries.  He is a member of the Professional Advisory Committee of the Chicago Community Trust, a past chairman and former legislative liaison for the Chicago Bar Association Trust Law Committee, and a past chairman and former legislative liaison of the CBA Probate Practice Committee.

Perkins Coie’s Personal Planning group works primarily with individuals, helping them define and meet their estate planning, family and related needs.  Seven of our attorneys have been elected Fellows of the prestigious American College of Trust and Estate Counsel.  We provide specialized estate planning for owners of closely held businesses, senior officers of public companies and entrepreneurs.  This planning often involves managing financial resources through the strategic use of trusts, gifts, sales and other income- and wealth-transfer techniques.  These strategies fulfill family and philanthropic goals while minimizing income, gift and estate taxes.  We also provide services as executor and trustee through Perkins Coie Trust Company.  As one of the few law firms in the country to offer in-house fiduciary and investment services, we provide clients with the opportunity to strategically coordinate their legal, estate planning, trust and investment management needs.  We also advise on succession plans, planned giving programs, charitable trusts and private foundations.
