SEATTLE (January 30, 2020) - Perkins Coie is pleased to announce that it has been recognized as a leading U.S. law firm by Diversity Lab in a new industry standard that scores law firms and sets specific targets for diversity and inclusion.

Over 70 law firms participated by providing and tracking their diversity and inclusion efforts. Perkins Coie ranked among the top 13 firms nationally that scored highest for diversity representation and inclusion initiatives.

The “Inclusion Blueprint,” a collaborative project between Diversity Lab and ChIPs, differs from traditional diversity assessments by gauging diversity representation target thresholds, annual progress and ongoing inclusion practices and initiatives. It also sets specific targets across three populations that law firms should strive to achieve at both the firm leadership and practice group levels, including 30% representation of women, 15% representation of racial and ethnic minorities, and 5% representation of LGBTQ+ lawyers.

Diversity Lab and ChIPs plan to raise these targets annually until they mirror U.S. law school graduation rates.

Diversity Lab is an incubator for innovative solutions that boost diversity and inclusion in the legal industry. Its initiatives are backed by well-known companies, including Microsoft, Starbucks, Bloomberg LP, and 3M. ChIPs is a nonprofit organization focused on advancing and connecting women in technology, law, and policy.
