SEATTLE, WA (December 18, 2018) – Perkins Coie is pleased to announce that the firm has once again been recognized in the Financial Times North American Innovative Lawyers report. The firm’s Portfolio Dashboard was recognized as “Highly Commended” in the Business of Law – New Products and Services category, the second year in a row the firm was ranked for its innovative IP tools. This marks the eighth time that the firm has appeared on the Innovative Lawyers rankings since 2012.
The firm’s Portfolio Dashboard is a cloud-based platform that allows clients real-time access to their patent portfolio data, increasing client control and time efficiency. Designed to be used by company management to easily track patent portfolio status and progress, the dashboard presents data pulled from Perkins Coie’s matter management system in a variety of simple-to-use graphs and reports that can be easily exported for publications or presentations. The Portfolio Dashboard reduces overall management costs by simplifying the report generation process.
“The firm is honored by the Financial Times’ recognition of our Portfolio Dashboard,” said Stephen Bishop, Co-Chair of Perkins Coie’s Intellectual Property Practice. “The Dashboard typifies our relentless efforts to provide clients greater visibility into data about the legal work we perform on their behalf.”
In 2017, Perkins Coie’s P4 dashboard, a custom workload management system that aggregates and cleanly displays current matter status, upcoming deadlines and progress toward budget information in real time, received the top score from Financial Times in the Business of Law – Technology category. P4, developed in collaboration with legal services provider Elevate, brings patent prosecution data into a single, user-friendly interface for workload management.
Since 2006, the Financial Times Innovative Lawyers report and subsequent awards have ranked lawyers on their innovations for clients and within their own businesses. Law firms and in-house legal operations are categorized across five broad areas—legal expertise, the business of law, rule of law and access to justice, collaboration and innovative individuals—and ranked based on their ability to deliver consistent and highly valued work on behalf of clients, firms, and the profession itself.
Perkins Coie’s IP practice includes more than 250 lawyers focused on IP litigation, post-grant proceedings, patent and trademark prosecution, strategic portfolio counseling, technology licensing, copyrights, domains and trade secret and unfair competition counseling. The practice has garnered significant recognition, including:
- Named by Law360 as one of the firms that “dominated” in patent cases decided by the Federal Circuit in both 2017 and 2016.
- Named one of the top seven firms that general counsel look to hire for IP litigation, according to BTI Litigation Outlook 2019, an annual analysis by BTI Consulting Group of the legal landscape.
- Ranked third among 35 law firms for gender diversity in their IP practices, according to the Inclusion Blueprint Survey by ChIPs and the Diversity Lab.
