WASHINGTON, D.C., (June 5, 2020) - Perkins Coie is pleased to announce that Nasdaq’s Board of Directors has appointed Valerie Dahiya, a partner in the firm’s Investment Management practice and a member of the firm’s Blockchain Technology & Digital Currency and Fintech industry groups, to Nasdaq’s Exchange Review Council.
Nasdaq’s Exchange Review Council is responsible for ensuring the consistent and fair application of the exchange’s rules related to the discipline of members and member organizations for each of Nasdaq’s six exchanges. Specifically, the Council has authority to accept or reject certain disciplinary actions and serve as an appellate body for disciplinary actions appealed from FINRA Hearing Panels, membership decisions (e.g., denials), decisions made by the Exchange relating to market maker withdrawal/reinstatement, and floor-based rulings. It is also charged with considering and making recommendations to Nasdaq’s Board of Directors on policy and rule changes relating to the business and sales practices of members and member organizations, as well as enforcement policies with respect to fines and other penalties.
Val has significant experience in the securities industry, particularly with respect to broker-dealer matters and exchange rules and regulations. Val regularly advises market participants on a range of regulatory issues. She also advises clients in the blockchain space as it relates to digital asset offerings, secondary trading, and trading platforms. Val has a sophisticated understanding of the federal securities laws, which allows her to provide strategic counsel on the regulatory issues surrounding market participants, commercial strategies and fundamental market structure. Prior to joining Perkins Coie, Val was a branch chief in the Office of Trading Practices in the Division of Trading and Markets at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
