SEATTLE (September 14, 2021)—Perkins Coie is pleased to announce it has achieved Mansfield 4.0 Certification Plus from Diversity Lab, which measures how leading law firms have affirmatively considered women, attorneys of color, LGBTQ+ attorneys, and attorneys with disabilities for recruitment, equity partner promotions, and management positions, among other significant benchmarks.

“Plus” certification indicates that a law firm has successfully reached at least 30% diverse attorney representation in a notable number of leadership roles, in addition to meeting or exceeding the baseline certification requirements.

“We’re honored to receive this important recognition during a time when maintaining and improving diversity and inclusion across the firm has become more important amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and our country’s reckoning with race,” said Genhi Givings Bailey, Perkins Coie’s chief diversity & inclusion officer. “This time has been challenging for all of us and especially so for women, people of color, and other diverse individuals. We remain steadfastly engaged in our work to further improving our diversity, equity, and inclusion goals.”

Mansfield Rule compliance is tracked by Diversity Lab and builds upon the National Football League’s “Rooney Rule,” created to increase diversity within head coaching ranks and senior operations positions. At Perkins Coie, the Mansfield Rule also builds on the firm’s “Perkins Rule,” which seeks to include attorneys of color, LGBTQ+ attorneys, and attorneys with disabilities in the candidate pool for lateral hiring opportunities.

Perkins Coie has long been recognized for excellence in the legal industry and for its commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive work culture. Perkins Coie was also recently named one of the 2021 “Best Law Firms for Women” by Seramount, which was formerly Working Mother Media, and has earned the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s top rating of 100% in the Corporate Equality Index, a national benchmarking survey on corporate policies and practices related to LGBTQ workplace equality, for 13 years.
