SAN DIEGO, Calif. (May 25, 2018) - Perkins Coie is pleased to announce that San Diego associate Ellen L. Smith, Ph.D., has been named to the San Diego Daily Transcript 2018 Top 40 Under 40 list.
Each year, the Daily Transcript selects forty young professionals under the age of forty in which to “highlight the best and brightest young professionals in San Diego County and the mark they're making in the region.”
Ellen, a patent attorney, counsels life science clients on technical and legal matters concerning inventorship, patentability, due diligence, patent portfolios and freedom to operate. She has written about stem cells for academic journals and presented on the topic of patent eligibility of natural products and diagnostics. Ellen’s graduate research at the University of California, Irvine focused on the regulation of human embryonic stem cell self-renewal and pluripotency. While there she was a California Institute of Regenerative Medicine fellowship recipient. Ellen is co-president and board member of the Tom Homann LGBT Law Association, volunteers on the host committee for Equality California and provides pro bono services for individuals seeking gender marker and name changes at a clinic held monthly at the San Diego LGBT Community Center. She is also currently completing her MBA at University of California, San Diego - Rady School of Management.
