WASHINGTON, D.C. (February 7, 2018) - Perkins Coie is pleased to announce that Robert A. Burgoyne has joined the firm’s Washington, D.C. office as a partner in the Commercial Litigation practice.

For more than 35 years, Bob has litigated complex civil matters before state and federal courts at the trial and appellate levels, and before foreign tribunals. He focuses on contract and other commercial disputes, copyright infringement, higher education disputes, and litigation involving federal and state agencies, including investigations under the Americans with Disabilities Act and challenges to agency rulemakings under the Administrative Procedures Act. Bob also counsels clients on regulatory compliance, employment law matters, contract negotiations, and organizational policies.

“Bob is a highly respected attorney with a broad range of knowledge and experience in federal and state courts,” said Katie O’Sullivan, Firmwide Chair of Perkins Coie’s Commercial Litigation practice. “His skills as a trial lawyer and extensive background across a range of regulatory and commercial litigation matters is a strategic fit for our Commercial Litigation practice.”

Bob’s clients have spanned a wide variety of industry sectors, including nonprofit associations, colleges and universities, multilateral lending institutions, energy companies, mining companies, companies in the hospitality industries, and entities that administer standardized examinations. Bob joined the firm from Norton Rose Fulbright, where he was a partner. He earned his J.D., cum laude, from the University of North Carolina, and received his B.A., summa cum laude, from Ohio Wesleyan University.

“Adding a senior litigator of Bob’s caliber and experience strongly complements our existing litigation bench, both nationally and in Washington,” said Bill Malley, Perkins Coie’s Office Managing Partner in Washington, D.C. “His unique area of focus and regulatory overlap will create opportunities to collaborate on larger litigation matters.”
