Palo Alto (December 2, 2010) – Perkins Coie announced today that Eric Wesenberg has joined the firm as a partner in its Patent Litigation practice. He will be based in the firm's Palo Alto office.

Wesenberg has represented technology clients in patent litigation and other intellectual property litigation matters for more than 20 years. His experience includes cases in federal district courts throughout the United States. Eric also has developed an expertise in appellate practice before the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. He has participated in more than 30 Federal Circuit appeals, arguing one-third of them. Wesenberg also has extensive experience representing Asian companies in intellectual property-related matters in the U.S. and has traveled and lectured widely in Asia.

"We are delighted that Eric has decided to move his practice and expertise to Perkins," said Ed Wes, Managing Partner of the firm's Bay Area offices. "Adding Eric to the Palo Alto office brings greater depth to the services we can provide our clients in the Bay Area, throughout the U.S. and in Asia."

The addition of Wesenberg reflects Perkins' continuing efforts to expand its patent litigation practice, which was recently ranked by Corporate Counsel as 18th in the nation for the most patent litigation district court cases filed in 2010. Wesenberg is the third lateral partner to join the Bay Area IP team in the past year. He joins recent hires, Partners Chris Kao and Bobbie Wilson. Perkins has more than 70 patent litigators across the offices who regularly represent Fortune 100 and 500 companies in cases involving technologies such as computer science, biotech, semiconductors, telecom, mechanical and electrical engineering, consumer products and medical devices.

"I am very pleased and excited to be joining Perkins. In recent years, Perkins has emerged as an important player in the intellectual property litigation scene and I am excited to be joining a firm for whom IP and technology clients are a focus," said Wesenberg.

Prior to joining Perkins Coie, Wesenberg was a partner in Orrick's Silicon Valley and Taipei offices, where he played a central role in their IP expansion into Asia. Wesenberg earned his J.D., cum laude, from the George Washington University Law School and received his B.A., with honors, from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and his M.A., with honors, from the American University in Cairo.
