Marc Elias appeared before the U.S. Supreme Court on March 21, 2016 for an oral argument urging the high court to reject a Republican appeal over congressional districts in Virginia.

Marc’s Supreme Court oral argument has garnered widespread media attention, with articles appearing in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal and several other news outlets. See list of media coverage below.

The appeal in the racial gerrymandering case was brought by Republican members of Congress who want the Supreme Court to reinstate a districting map that a lower court tossed out and redrew, ruling that the map violated the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. Perkins Coie represented the voters who had challenged the voting district and won before a three-judge panel of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.
