Business Development Director

The Business Development Director will initiate new opportunities for the firm utilizing a proactive, market-facing approach to new business generation. They will assist Perkins Coie attorneys (individually and in groups) to expand professional relationships with clients and targeted prospects through lead generation in alignment with the firm’s priority markets, practices and industry sectors. This position will support partner efforts to identify, pursue and close new business opportunities across the firm.
Primary job responsibilities include:
- Work with selected Practice Group leaders, Office Managing partners and Industry Sectors Leaders to identify, prioritize and pursue high-potential targeting opportunities (potential new clients and warm prospects.)
- Collaborate with Sectors and Practice Marketing staff and Marketing/Competitive Intelligence team to conduct market research (both primary and secondary) to uncover new business opportunities.
- Facilitate introductions for the firm’s key attorneys with selected business and community leaders.
- In collaboration with Marketing staff, support efforts to grow visibility with decision makers in priority markets and industry sectors.
The ideal candidate will possess strong interpersonal skills reflecting professionalism, tact and good judgment. The candidate must be a successful team player, self-starter, and problem solver. They must demonstrate extensive knowledge and expertise in professional services business development techniques. As well as, the ability to work with all levels of personnel and diplomatically interact with executives. A proven ability in identifying and understanding current and future client/potential client business needs and developing and maintaining knowledge of the Firm’s expertise, capabilities, structure and client base. The candidate must possess excellent organizational skills and strong technical skills in business applications including Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Word, and Salesforce. General understanding of the law profession and large corporate law firm business model is a plus.
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required; advanced degree (MS, MA, MBA, JD or other relevant graduate degree) highly desirable. A minimum of 15 years of experience in legal or professional services required and a proven track record of experience in accurately assessing business development objectives and creating opportunities through key business relationships. This position requires significant travel.
