Viola Kung Joins Perkins Coie's Patent Practice

PALO ALTO (March 3, 2011) – Perkins Coie is pleased to announce that Viola Kung, Ph.D. has joined the firm’s Palo Alto office as a partner in its patent procurement practice. "We are pleased to welcome Viola to the firm,” said Ed Wes, Palo Alto Office Managing Partner. "We know her intellectual property experience will be an asset to our team and to our clients." Kung focuses her practice on patent prosecution and patent counseling in the chemical, pharmaceutical, diagnostics, biotechnology and small molecule arenas. In addition, she is experienced in reexamination, appeal and interference proceedings before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. An inventor of 21 patents, Kung holds her Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley in Chemistry and Biochemistry and is a registered patent attorney. She received her J.D. from Santa Clara University School of Law and her B.S. in Chemistry from National Taiwan University. Kung joins an intellectual property practice which includes nearly 200 lawyers focused on IP litigation, patent and trademark prosecution, technology licensing, copyrights, and trade secret and unfair competition counseling and also a group of over 50 life sciences attorneys who represent clients across a full range of life sciences areas, including biologics, diagnostics, medical devices and pharmaceuticals.
