Ted Chung Quoted in Inside Counsel Article on Thompson Memo
General News
09.01.2008
Under the Thompson Memo, an outline of more stringent guidelines for criminally charging corporations, the degree to which a company cooperated with an investigation was a deciding factor in whether to indict. Bar and civil liberties groups as well as corporations and defense lawyers objected to the memo, "You had years and years of corporate scandal. People in a position to affect policy reacted, and rightfully so,” said Perkins Coie Partner and former U.S. Attorney Ted Chung, in the recent Inside Counsel article “Push Back: Recent history of white-collar crime teaches corporate America a lesson." "It's just that in the implementation and enforcement of it, there was an overreaction."
