Steve Lawrenz focuses his practice on strategic patent portfolio management and patent prosecution with specific emphasis on computer software and Internet applications. He evaluates third-party patent portfolios, counsels clients on avoiding patent infringement, and mines client patent portfolios to identify assets for licensing, patent infringement counterclaims and divestment.

He has experience with patent preparation and prosecution in many technology areas, including: Internet business models, applications, advertising, and behavioral analysis; searching and search result processing, including multimedia search; electronic merchant infrastructures; recommendation techniques; cloud computing and other uses of virtual computing; computer and Internet games; software development tools, including those for analyzing and debugging multithreaded programs; operating systems, including real-time operating systems, file systems, visual user interface features, security measures, and library and device driver architectures; relational and multidimensional database systems; network infrastructure and security; ambiguous text input; object-oriented programming; natural language processing and understanding; computer vision; voice input; electronic election systems; valuation modeling; software patching and updating functionality; software application features, including those of CRM applications and office productivity applications; server load-testing; industrial process control; and techniques for adding functionality to rendered documents.
